1. Scope and worldwide application

This Privacy Policy explains how Rate My Reads LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), a Utah-based company, collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use Read ’Em and Rate, our related mobile applications, and app-related web services (collectively, the “Service”). Our separate marketing and merchandise website may provide additional notices for website cookies, purchases, and Fourthwall services.

This Policy applies to Service users worldwide. The rights available to you may vary based on where you live. The Utah, California and other U.S. state, and EEA/UK sections below provide additional information for people covered by those laws; they supplement rather than limit the privacy choices described for all users.

By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Who may use the Service

The Service is intended for adults age 18 or older. We do not knowingly permit children under 18 to create accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has created an account or provided information, contact us so we can investigate and delete the information as appropriate. Book audience labels such as Juvenile Fiction or Young Adult describe books and do not mean that the social Service is directed to children.

3. Information we collect

Account and profile information

We may collect your email address, display name, username, password credential through our authentication provider, bio, profile color, avatar or photo, profile banner, reader-personality selections, favorite genres, favorite books, social links you choose to provide, privacy choices, subscription entitlements, and theme preferences.

Reading and community activity

We collect information you create or save, including ratings, reviews, content ratings, selected tropes, shelves, reading goals, reading progress, status messages, favorites, collections, follows, likes, News activity, author follows, notifications, and share-card preferences. Information you designate as public may be seen by other users and may be shared outside the Service.

Book, author, and organization submissions

We collect book suggestions, catalogue corrections, ISBNs, series details, cover images, source links, author-claim evidence, author book submissions, and bookstore or library verification information. Verification submissions may include professional contact information and supporting documentation.

Support, safety, copyright, and administrative information

We collect support tickets, bug reports, reports concerning reviews or accounts, copyright and intellectual-property notices, correspondence, staff notes, moderation decisions, appeal information, and administrative audit records. Private staff notes are visible only to authorized administrators.

Photos and files

If you choose to upload a profile image, banner, book cover, or supporting evidence, we process the file you select. We do not access your full photo library without the permissions and selections you make through your device.

Purchases and subscription status

Apple processes purchases made through the App Store. We may receive transaction identifiers, product identifiers, subscription status, trial status, renewal or expiration information, and entitlement information needed to provide paid features. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number from Apple.

Technical and usage information

Our service providers may process IP address, device and browser type, operating system, app version, timestamps, authentication events, diagnostic information, crash information, security logs, and interactions needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service. We will update this Policy before introducing materially different analytics or tracking practices.

4. How we use information

• Provide accounts, profiles, ratings, shelves, goals, collections, themes, notifications, and other requested features.
• Synchronize information across supported devices after you sign in.
• Process subscriptions, trials, restorations, and feature entitlements.
• Operate book-catalogue, author, organization, support, safety, and administrative workflows.
• Detect prohibited content, spam, fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical failures.
• Investigate reports, respond to requests, enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and maintain appropriate audit records.
• Send transactional messages, password resets, security notices, service updates, and notifications you request.
• Comply with law, protect rights and safety, resolve disputes, and improve the Service.

5. Public and private information

Your username, display name, public profile, public reviews, public reading activity, public favorite collections, public goals, reader personalities, public banner, and other information you choose to make public may be visible to other users. Email address, password information, private goals, private collections, support tickets, verification evidence, and private staff notes are not intended for public display.

No online service can guarantee that public information will not be copied or reshared. Review your privacy choices before publishing information.

6. When we disclose information

• To service providers that process information for us, including Supabase for database, authentication, and file storage; Expo and relevant Apple services for application delivery and functionality; and hosting, email, security, or support providers we actually use.
• To other users when you publish information or choose a public setting.
• To comply with law, legal process, valid government requests, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
• In connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to appropriate notice and safeguards.
• With your direction or consent.

7. No sale of personal information; advertising

We do not sell personal information for money. The application does not currently use third-party behavioral advertising or share application activity for cross-context behavioral advertising. If those practices change, we will provide required notices and choices before the change takes effect. The separate marketing website may use cookies or tools described in its own notice.

8. No AI or machine-learning training

Read ’Em and Rate does not use book information, book covers, reviews, profile pictures, profile banners, author-verification materials, support evidence, or other submitted content to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. We do not sell, license, or provide submitted content to third parties for AI training.

Operational service providers may process only the information reasonably necessary to provide hosting, authentication, app builds, distribution, security, moderation, and customer support, subject to their applicable agreements and our instructions. Public display does not grant permission for AI training or reuse beyond the rights held by the applicable owner.

9. Data retention

We retain account information while your account is active and for the period reasonably necessary to provide the Service, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, satisfy legal obligations, and enforce agreements. Public content generally remains until you delete it, your account is deleted, or we remove it. Support, safety, copyright, transaction, and administrative records may be retained longer when reasonably necessary for legal compliance, security, audit, or dispute resolution. Backups may retain residual copies for a limited period before routine deletion.

10. Account deletion and privacy choices

You may edit supported profile and privacy settings in the Service. You may request deletion using the in-app account-deletion function or by contacting us. Account deletion is intended to delete or de-identify account-associated personal information and user-generated content unless retention is required or permitted by law. Some public references may be anonymized where deletion would affect another user’s records.

Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription. Cancel the subscription in your Apple account settings.

11. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including authenticated access, database access controls, administrator multi-factor authentication, restricted moderation functions, and secure transmission. No system is completely secure. Protect your password and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access.

12. International processing

The Service is operated from Utah in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where service providers operate. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we use appropriate contractual, technical, and organizational measures.

13. Privacy rights available to all users

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with your account and may request account closure, subject to applicable verification, legal, security, and operational exceptions. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, obtain a portable copy, withdraw consent, opt out of certain processing, or appeal a decision. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.

14. Utah privacy rights

Rate My Reads LLC is based in Utah. The Utah Consumer Privacy Act (“UCPA”) applies only when its statutory business-size and data-processing thresholds are met. Where the UCPA applies, eligible Utah residents may have the right to confirm whether we process their personal data, access that data, delete personal data they provided, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of the sale of personal data or its use for targeted advertising.

We do not currently sell personal information for money or use application activity for targeted behavioral advertising. Verified UCPA requests will be handled within the time required by Utah law, generally 45 days, subject to permitted extensions and exceptions. Even when the UCPA does not legally apply, we provide the core access, correction, deletion, and account-closure choices described above to all users.

15. California and other U.S. state privacy rights

Residents of California and other U.S. states may have additional rights under laws that apply to us, including rights to know or access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling, limit certain uses of sensitive information, and appeal certain decisions. We do not claim that every state law applies to us at every stage of operation. Where a state privacy law applies, we will honor verified requests and provide required notices and choices.

16. EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other international rights

If applicable law provides you with data-protection rights, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and complain to a local supervisory authority. Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, processing may be based on consent, performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, protection of vital interests, or our legitimate interests, as appropriate. Where required, international transfers rely on recognized adequacy mechanisms, contractual safeguards, or other lawful protections.

17. Notifications and communications

You may control push notifications through device settings and available in-app preferences. We may still send service, security, legal, or account communications when necessary. Marketing email, if offered, will include applicable unsubscribe choices.

18. Third-party links, catalogue sources, and affiliate links

The Service may link to retailers, libraries, authors, publishers, or other third parties. Some retailer links may be affiliate links. If you follow an affiliate link and make a qualifying purchase, Rate My Reads LLC may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. We will use a reasonably clear disclosure near affiliate links or in the area where they appear.

When you select an external link, the third party may receive information ordinarily transmitted by your browser or device. Their privacy practices apply after you leave the Service. Catalogue information may be obtained from permitted public or licensed sources; source attribution does not mean that the source receives your private account information.

19. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service or law changes. We will post the revised version and update the effective date. We will provide additional notice when a material change requires it.
